Hello everyone - wishing you all a slightly belated Happy New Year and a wonderful 2013!
We hope you shared many memorable moments during the festive season, whether at home with friends and family or abroad on an exciting (or perhaps even spontaneous) adventure. We can't wait until you are able to share these experiences on Maptia!
Things have been a little quiet here on the blog as we recovered from the aptly named 'TechStars hangover'. We cannot say enough good things about this program and the amazing people who make it happen (more coming on that soon), but it was certainly an intense experience, and unlike any other we have had the privilege of sharing. We needed a little time to rest and recover our full vigour before steaming ahead with the next steps.
Looking back on TechStars and the journey so far
As we head back around the globe, flying into the sun, from the Westerly shores of Chile and Seattle, it seems a good moment to reflect on the amazing adventures of the last 12 months. If you had asked us four years ago at university where we would be today, it would most certainly not have been where we are now!
Already we are starting to feel nostalgic and sentimental about TechStars, and it seems like only yesterday we were shedding tears in utter disbelief and impossible excitement at having been accepted onto the program.
We have experienced high levels of stress and anxiety about living up to expectations, the most insane amount of learning, joyous moments of progress and enlightenment, and then also the lows of bitter failure when we felt we had let everyone down by being too slow. Yet throughout all of this, we never once wavered in our close friendship and loyalty to each other or to Maptia, never once came close to an argument, and never once laid blame when things went pear-shaped.
It has been a remarkable time for all of us and despite the challenges and emotional intensities, everything concluded on a high note with a great TechStars Demo Day. This year has been a life-changing experience, and we feel fired up to move forwards armed with new knowledge on how to turn Maptia into what we know it can be.
The time we spent with Jianshi over the past few months has been incredibly valuable, and it is a mutual feeling between the four of us that we enriched each others lives' and learned a great deal together, but after TechStars the time came for him to move on to other challenges. We wish Jianshi all the very best in the future!
The rest of us are swinging into the new year with plenty of Maptia momentum and have just put our newly re-designed blog live. Jonny will be launching some exciting new blog series soon, so keep an eye out for those here.
Maptia in Morocco
For the first half of 2013 we are going to be located in a little town by the coast in Morocco, where we will be able to live frugally but happily as we work hard to finish building the first version of Maptia.
From the beginning, it has been a humbling experience for everyone to show us so much support and encouragement - family, friends, and also the odd stranger making our day with a kind message out of the blue. With all we have learned over the past year, we now feel much more equipped to clear the final hurdles before launch. Morocco will give us the peace and quiet we need to focus all our energies on the product and you lovely people in our community, as we strive to build something worthy of your imagination…
Our door will always be open, the hammocks strung up in the sun, and good food on the table, so if you happen to be riding past on your camel, do pop in to say hello. Drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are passing - we would love to hear from you.
Once again, we are now 'The Three Musketeers' who set off on an improbable and hair-raising adventure to Chile at the start of last year. And what an amazing adventure it has been so far… Long may it continue!
